Causes for chapped lips
Sadly, the skin on our lips, unlike skin on other parts of our bodies, has no oil glands and it cannot moisturize itself. Because of this, we treat chapped lips with lip balm which is not a permanent solution and only brings relief for a certain period of time.

- Coconut oil
This carrier oil is perfect for your lips because it contains fatty acids which leave the lips soft and supple after application. It is also a great moisturizer and lubricant and in combination with other essential oils gives fast results. Coconut oil can also be used as a prevention for infections and cracked lips.
- Neem / tea tree oil
- Coconut oil
- Simply mix one tablespoon of tea tree/ neem oil with one tablespoon of coconut oil and gently rub it on your lips
- Leave it on to work
- Sugar and honey
Normally, if your lips dry up dead skin abounds and the only effective solution for such a problem is using a scrub to remove the dead skin cells. Moreover, if you are regularly struggling with chapped lips, you are in need of exfoliation and luckily this mixture is a great exfoliant and moisturizer.
Both these ingredients have some amazing properties such as honey having the ability to control water levels in the skin while sugar absorbs the moisture from the environment.
- A good lip balm
Although as we mentioned before lip balms are not a permanent solution and only bring relief for a limited period of time, they are a good option which brings moisture to your lips.
However, not every lip balm is a good option, and some can even leave your lips dried up and depended on lip balm. This is usually the case with mint/ menthol flavored lip balms which offer a cool and soothing feel at first but leave your lips dried up and prone to damage. Moreover, when looking for a lip balm it is best to choose those that contain lanolin, beeswax or ceramides as ingredients.
- Almond oil
Almond oil is known as a remedy with multiple uses among which is treating chapped lips. Due to it being made of fatty acids, applying just a few drops of oil on your lips will eliminate the dryness and bring moisture to them.
Due to cucumber being a vegetable which is mostly made of water it hydrates your skin and gives life to it in a way. Cucumber is the perfect way to treat chapped lips, so we recommend you always have it in your kitchen.
- First, take the cucumber and cut it into slices. Then take a slice a gently rub over your lips. Leave on the juice for at least 10 minutes to witness effect.
- Another option is to mash the cucumber and use it as a mask for your lips.
- Aloe Vera
Similarly like the cucumber, this plant is also made of a lot of water which makes it an effective remedy for treating chapped lips.
Not only will this remedy remove the dead skin cells from your lips, but it will also ensure a stronger new layer of skin. It is perfect for treating dried up lips because of its cooling effect.
- Take an aloe leaf and cut it exactly in the middle.
- Gather the gel from the leaf into a container and then apply it on your lips.
- Leave it on to stay over the night.
- Rose petals
Rose petals are rich in vitamin E which makes them the perfect nourishing remedy.
- 4/5 rose petals
- ¼ a cup of raw milk
- Insert the petals and let them soak in a container filled with raw milk for about 30 minutes.
- Then mash the petals until you get a consistent paste.
- Next, apply the paste on your lips and keep it on for about 20 minutes.
- Once done, wash it off using cold water.
Remember, to witness results repeat this procedure every day over the course of a week.
