What are Fordyce spots and what causes them?

Fordyce spots can be located on one or both of your lips or in some cases even on your genitals. Men are slightly more likely to have condition than women. How to get rid of Fordyce spots

  • Ginger

Ginger is not only a standard among home remedies it is also very effective in getting rid of these spots mostly because if its antihistamine properties. Ginger decreases the production of extra sebum, which is the exact cause of Fordyce spots.

If you cannot find ginger extract in your local market or on the internet, here is how to prepare it at home:

Take 3-4 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and a handful of ginger and put it in a small mixer. Blend until the ginger is fully broken down and then add 200 ml of water.

Transfer this mixture in a clear mason jar and cover it with airtight lid. Leave it exposed to sun for a week. After a week has passed transfer the liquid into another container.

If you are using ginger oil take only too drops and apply with a cotton pad. Repeat this every night before you go to bed for a week and wash it off in the morning.

  • Argan oil

This oil is commonly used as a moisturizer because it is quickly absorbed in the skin and doesn’t leave it oily after application. Argan oil is rich with linoleic acid and works in the way that it takes out the extra serum from the pores and with this enables your skin to get back to its true nature.

Use 2 drops of argan oil rub them on your fingers until you feel a warmth and then apply directly on the Fordyce spots. Do this for a week and you will witness effect.

  • Garlic and lemon

For this recipe you will need 1-2 tablespoon od lemon juice and 2 cloves of garlic. Put them in a blender and process until it is completely blended. Then add 200 ml of water and mix again.  Apply this with a cotton pad on the infected area and leave it overnight. Clean it in the morning with warm water. Go on with this process for two weeks.

  • Coconut oil

Rub a few drops of coconut oil on the spots daily and if you want to enhance the effect add lavender oil to it.

Keep it clean

When dealing with this type of problems doctors usually advice not to use cosmetics products because they irritate the skin and disturb the pores. But if you must, use only products labeled as noncomedogenic.

To prevent any further bacterial-infection clean the area by washing it with mild soap 2-3 times a day.
