The last thing a person who has already gone through a bad cold is a sinus infection. The headaches and the blocked nasal airways are awful and conventional meds don’t do much when it comes ti sinusitis.
However, there are a lot of home remedies that can make the situation better.
A. Drinking enough water.
When’s the last time you monitored your water intake? 8 glasses of water a day are the minimum for a 100-pound adult. A person who is well-hydrated isn’t as vulnerable to infections as others. You can also go for different herbal teas that contain natural anti-inflammatory substances. They will prevent a sinus infection and will help relief sinus pain.
B. Some spices found in foods.
Even though spicy foods can help, not all spices as effective in a case of a sinus infection. The ones you should look for belong to the mustard family, including mustard seeds, wasabi, and horseradish. Turmeric and ginger will also provide some pain relief due do their anti-inflammatory effects.
C. Keeping an allergen-free environment
Investing in a good air purifier will do you good in the long run. It will help you prevent future illnesses and you won’t be as susceptible as you were before.
D. Apple cider vinegar
The famous apple cider vinegar has both anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. Make a cup of apple cider vinegar tea and drink it twice a day when you’re dealing with a sinus infection. Simply put 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar into a cup of warm water and drink up. You can add some honey for taste as well.
E. Steam inhalation
Steam inhalation is a traditional home remedy and people still use it simply because it works. Heat a small pot of water until it boils. After you remove it from the heat add a drop of eucalyptus or menthol. Bend your face over the put and cover your head with a towel. Inhale for at least 20 minutes. It will soothe the sinus cavities.
F. Himalayan salt and hydrogen peroxide solution
This one may not be for everyone as flushing the insides with a powerful solution can be uncomfortable. However, it works wonders as it provides immediate relief. It clears away the blockage and disinfects the area.
Mix 1/2 tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide solution and 1 teaspoon of Himalayan salt into a cup of water. Put it into a Neti pot and pour some in one nostril at a time.
